Epsom Salt Baths

The Cure for What Ails You

By Shannon Williamson May 1, 2018

Have a sick kiddo? Get them into the tub!

Detox baths are definitely a ‘thing’ in our house. When anyone in our family starts to come down with something, instead of immediately opening the medicine cabinet, we turn to the tub instead! We notice a dramatic reduction in illness by incorporating a couple baths a day when the body is compromised.

You have probably heard of using Epsom salts for sore muscles and feet, but did you know the magnesium in Epsom salts gently pulls out toxins and draws magnesium into the body? Take a minute and go check out the benefits of magnesium and you will want to make detox baths a part of your week.

Baking soda is also a key ingredient in detox baths. It helps to neutralize the water and increase absorption of the Epsom salts.

Finally, we can’t forget the essential oils. The benefits of the volatile liquid from the plant cannot be understated. They kill bacteria (just like they would for the plant), build up the immune system, carry oxygen to the brain and body, and help to fight the free radicals that are streaming through our bodies. We want these in our bodies for so many reasons.

By mixing the essential oils in with the Epsom salts and baking soda FIRST, the oils will disperse evenly throughout the water instead of sitting on top of the water (which can feel spicy on the skin).

I mix up a big batch of this recipe and fill 8oz. mason jars so they’re ready to dump in the bath as needed.

Detox bath wellness salts:

·4 C. Epsom salts

·2 C. Baking soda

·Thieves essential oil

·Purification essential oil

Directions:

·Mix together Epsom salts & baking soda and add to mason jars (makes 6 jars).

·Add 2 drops each of Thieves & Purification essential oils to each mason jar.

·Place lid on and shake up.

To use:

Add 1 jar to bath for kiddos and 2 jars for adults.

Additional magnesium can make a body tired which is great because rest is another key part of getting better! It can also be dehydrating so lots of water after a bath is critical.

A detox bath is one of the first things I recommend when anyone messages me on what to do if someone is coming down with illness (because mommas ain’t got time to be sick!). Detox baths are also fabulous for proactive wellness too!

Note: 93-97% of essential oils on the market are food or perfume-grade. You do NOT want these in your bloodstream. Young Living essential oils are the most pristine oil on the market, are properly steam-distilled and do not contain anything but the plant. Either use good oils or don’t use them at all (the Epsom salt & baking soda are still incredibly supportive).
