What Are the 3 Most Toxic Products in Your Home?

By Shannon Williamson June 27, 2018

As a former Bath & Body Works junkie, I’m going to start by saying that there is no judgement here. I used to have candles as the ONLY thing on my Christmas wish list, and plug-ins in every outlet. Fragrance, fancy packaging, flickering lights…these were key components in making my house feel like home. Until I learned what was in them.

The fact of the matter is that we willingly bring thousands of chemicals into our home, many of which we have no clue how they are impacting our bodies. That is because the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) of 1976 grandfathered in an estimated 65,000-100,000 chemicals currently on the market today. These chemicals have not had ANY safety testing, so we know very little information about their effects. For chemicals that are tested, toxic labeling is required only if 50% or more of the animals tested with a chemical die. That alone was enough for me to start reading labels on everything in our house.

I will be starting a series on simple things you can do to clean up your home and make it a safe haven for you and your loved ones. But let’s start with a question: Do you know what the THREE most toxic products in your home are?

Answer:

·Dryer Sheets

·Candles/plug-ins

·Household cleaners (409, Scrubbing Bubbles, Clorox wipes)

Super close fourth: Laundry detergent

In the weeks to come, we’ll talk about swaps for each of these and more. You are the gatekeeper of your home so it’s up to YOU to make the best choices for your family. For every dollar invested in your health and wellness now, you save $80 in the future on illness and the care that surrounds it. You and your family are worthy of feeling your best, and this starts in the home.

I’m so excited to share more!
