DIY cleaning wipes

As I prepare for back to school, I’m looking at my kids’ school supplies lists and both include disinfecting wipes as a required item. Knowing what I know now, I simply cannot, in good faith, send these with my kids.

There is a reason why it is part of my state’s health code that children do not touch these wipes. They are full of toxic ingredients; fragrance and formaldehyde or formaldehyde-like ingredients to start. They get a D from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) for asthma/respiratory toxicity: click here for the article. These ingredients actually work to depress the immune system, which defeats the purpose of what the school is trying to do with these wipes: Keep germs away to keep kids in school.

Fortunately, making your own cleaning wipes could not be easier. These particular wipes harness the power of Thieves essential oil, a blend of oils proven to remove dirt, boost the immune system, and help fight off the nasties our kids are exposed to. Not to mention they are affordable!

To make your own cleaning wipes, you will need:

·1 large rectangular container with secure lid

·1 roll of high-quality paper towels with select-a-size option

·2 cups distilled water

·1 capful of Thieves household cleaner

·8 drops Thieves essential oil

Directions:

1.Separate paper towel roll, choosing the smallest size. (You may need to cut the rectangles to fit the container. You can cut through many layers of paper towel at a time with scissors, so this will not take long.)

2.Place paper towels into container.

3.Add 1 capful of Thieves household cleaner and 8 drops of Thieves essential oil to distilled water and stir.

4.Gently pour over paper towels, lifting up layers to ensure all paper towels are saturated.

5.Place lid on container.

I will send one container of wipes to each classroom with a note for the teacher to return the empty container home with the kids and I will happily refill it.

My favorite mantra has always been: know better, do better. While there are lot of issues, there are also many solutions. This, fortunately, is an easy one!
