Empowered Teens Coalition

Our Community and School District Working Together

By Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative - Partners for Healthy Communities October 4, 2018

The Empowered Teens Coalition is a partnership of state agencies, counties, schools and local prevention coalitions supporting communities in preventing alcohol and other drug abuse and it's negative consequences. The Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative priorities include reducing underage drinking, marijuana use and opioid misuse/abuse among middle and high school students. By providing evidence-based practices and promoting the positive changes in communities, we can build healthier communities.

The Empowered Teens Coalition began as the Chimacum Prevention Coalition (CPC) in Fall 2013 and changed its name in 2018. The Coalition is a collaboration with the Chimacum School District and the Olympic Behavioral Health and Recovery. Jefferson County Public Health provides fiscal oversight of the Coalition's state and federal funding.

The Empowered Teens Coalition is a volunteer alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention advocacy organization that brings community members together to reduce youth substance abuse and misuse in the geographic area specific to the Chimacum School District. Members represent 12 community professionals, youth-serving agencies, civic/volunteer groups, local government, religious/fraternal organizations, media, and law enforcement. Volunteers guide decision making, evaluate data, participate in direct service opportunities, and promote the Coalition's efforts in their community sectors.
