Combating Immune Suppression with Essential Oils

Sugar, the immune system, and how to stay healthy this season

Calling all Halloween candy eaters! That means YOU TOO sweet parents…you know you snuck some from your child’s treat bag! While I’m all about dressing up and having a great time, I look at Halloween candy and treats differently now that I know what it does to the body. 

When you were sick as a child, did your mom take you for a milkshake or serve you pudding in bed? My mom did. That and 7-up. She was doing her best to make it less awful to be sick but what she didn’t know is that she was killing my immune system, and possibly prolonging my sickness.

And that’s the thing: sugar suppresses the immune system BIG TIME. When you eat a dose of sugar such as a can of soda or a candy bar, you temporarily tamp down your immune system’s ability to respond to challenges. Think of it as putting your immune system in jail so it can’t get out and fight for you. 

The effect lasts for several hours, so if you continue to eat sweets throughout the day, your immune system is continuously compromised. Most likely you will remain below the wellness line and be susceptible to all sorts of nonsense.

So, if you and your kids are chronically sick, check your sugar intake!

In addition to cutting sugar, there are two things we do in our home DAILY to keep our immune systems strong and healthy:

1.Daily probiotics: 80-85% of the immune system is in the gut so supporting the gut, in turn, supports the immune system! Flooding the gut with healthy bacteria will help to fight off all the sugars, toxins, and nasty bacteria we are exposed to daily. 

2.Thieves essential oil blend: This powerhouse combination of essential oils work to fight off bacteria and germs. We apply a few drops EVERY NIGHT to our feet, because the feet have large pores and act like straws to the body. The oils flood our cells with the protective properties of each plant (which our bodies recognize) and keep our immune systems strong and ready for battle.

I don’t know about you, but this mama does NOT have time to be sick or have sick kids. There are so many fun events coming up during the holiday season and I want to experience them as a healthy, vibrant family. Prevention is KEY, and it starts with a few simple actions: cut the sugar, and add the probiotics and Thieves. Happy November!!!
