5 tips to declutter your home this summer
Wellness isn’t just about the body, but also the mind, and too much clutter can truly impact how centered you feel. Now that it’s summer, there are few things I’m working on to declutter our home and make it a peaceful space.
Here’s what I’m working on implementing:
Don’t recycle those boxes
Every time we get a FedEx/UPS delivery or get back from Costco, we don’t break down the boxes! Instead, we fill them up with items to donate. I've been doing this for a month now, and slowly but surely, I’m starting to fall in love with my home again.
The rule of 1:1
I refuse to hang anything new in my closet unless I empty the same number or more of items to donate.
It’s ok to let it go
Remember that it’s ok to let go that which is cluttering up your closets, your desk, your shelves. Even if it was a gift…the memory will always remain. You aren’t doing anyone favors by hanging on to everything that was ever given to you. Or those old notes from junior high. Or the tacky souvenirs from your trip to the Caribbean. #letitgo
Translate it into hours
That thing that’s on sale that you think you need? Translate it into your hourly rate. Is it worth the number of hours you would need to work to pay for it? That REALLY put things into perspective for me. That and…
All that clutter used to be money
When you think of it like that, you’ll be less likely to bring in more stuff. Instead, only purchase that which sparks joy in you.
I vow to return my home back to a place of rest, where I look around and only see the things I treasure or need. The rest goes.
